Welcome to the Talking Bat podcast series from BatAbility Courses & Tuition. Every month we interview someone important, influential, inspirational or just darn right bat-tastic from the world of bats or from the wider world of ecology/natural history/conservation. These interviews are carried out in a relaxed, conversational style, as we dive deeper into the background of our guests. Here we have the pleasure of Talking Bat with Sue Swift, the first person in the UK to carry out a Phd on bats. We talk about: some of her early research working with Prof Paul Racey (Aberdeen University); the work she did on timber treatment chemicals; foraging behaviour of Natterer's & Bechstein's bats; authoring the species monologue 'Long-eared Bats'; Rabies research; heated bat box research, and bat dropping analysis. And of course we also speak about her receiving the Bat Conservation Trust's 'Pete Guest Award' in 2009.
